Name According to Your Bakery Type
One thing that we have noticed while naming thousands of businesses is that people are really creative. I wouldn’t have even imagined the type of business people are doing these days. That’s why the first thing that we have to do is think about the type of business we are doing exactly.
What kind of bakery are you going to start? Will you run a bakery that sells only baked products? Or you are going to start a bakery that will sell all sorts of products.
- For a traditional bakery, name it after the place where it is situated.
- For a contemporary bakery, name it after the type of baked goods it specializes in.
- For a specialty bakery, name it after the ingredients or flavors used in its products.
If you are going to start a bakery that sells everything from fresh cakes to spicy and tasty pizzas, you need a name that is general. But if you are just selling fresh cupcakes, then picking a general name isn’t important. Because a general name for a bakery that sells just cupcakes won’t profit it.
For such a small bakery, choosing a name according to its size is important to attract your targeted audience. Let’s say you name it “GrandMaa CupCakes”.
This would be a perfect name for such a bakery because it’s telling exactly what’s being sold inside this small bakery. This will help your targeted audience to easily understand whether they are in need of your products or not.
Modern Bakery Names
When choosing a business name, modern and futuristic can be great considerations. These terms imply a sense of forward-thinking and innovation, which is a great reflection of your bakery business.
A modern and futuristic bakery business name could be something like “The Future Bakery.” This name implies that you’re the go-to bakery for up-and-coming trends and ideas in baking and that you’re always looking to push the envelope.
A more traditional, but still modern, bakery business name could be “The Bake Shop.” This name suggests a classic and traditional bakery atmosphere, with a focus on high-quality baking. It’s a name that will appeal to a wide range of potential customers.
If you want to go even further with the futuristic vibe, you could choose “The Baking Lab.” This name implies that you’re a cutting-edge bakery that specializes in creative and innovative baking techniques.
It’s a name that will attract a lot of attention and inspire your customers to try new and exciting things in the kitchen.
Whatever name you choose, make sure it’s something that reflects the modern and futuristic atmosphere of your bakery business.
It’ll make a big difference in how people perceive your business and how they shop for bread and pastries.
Here are some modern bakery names that will help you in branding your bakery products:
How to come up with a Bakery Name
Here are some tips on how to come up with a unique name for your bakery that will stand out from the crowd.
Use Bakery and Location Related Words – Don’t be Vague
If you need some bakery name ideas to get started, consider taking inspiration from your favorite bakery dishes, local landmarks, and/or the cultural background of the area where you’re located.
For example, if you plan to open a French bakery, try “La Baguette” or “Le Croissant”. If your bakery specializes in cupcakes and cakes, you could try something like “Cupcakery” or “Cake Palace”.
There are some words and phrases that have been overused and that if you were to use the same approach for naming your bakery you’re probably just going to fold into the mix and your bakery will really stand out.
So I want to make sure that you know what those words and phrases are so that you try and avoid them.
Here are my observations. I see a lot of words that are very vague and that might confuse customers. One of those words is confections, for example.
So bakery owners like to include their name together with the word ‘confection’ in the name of their bakery shops. Let’s say your name is Michelle, then you name your bakery Michelle’s confections. It’s quite vague!
It’s a bakery or bakery business. Be more specific. In my opinion using the word bakery or bakery shop and similar relevant words would be much better and clearer. Words like confections, special occasions, concoctions, and so on, sound fun but they don’t really mean anything to the customer.
Your bakery business name should inform the customers what you’re doing and it should also be easy to remember.
Try to Avoid Using Your Own Name in the Bakery Shop Name
Since we’re on the topic, I also do not suggest using your name, unless you have a very strong family name that carries a reputation in the bakery industry and which you want to leverage for your bakery’s business success.
Bakeries that are named after the owner’s first name are also hard to brand, and can make it difficult to sell the business later down the line.
Do Not Misspell the Name on Purpose
Another tip is to not misspell the bakery business name on purpose. So, for example, if your business was called Crazy Cakes and you spell cakes with a ‘k’ and crazy with a ‘k’ so that the Bakery brand name is spelled as Krazy Kakes.
The reason for this is that when people are searching for your bakery online and type a Google search, chances are they’re not going to spell it as Krazy Kakes, but instead type in Crazy Cakes. Guess what will happen. They will end up going to one of your competitors instead!
So I suggest not misspelling the bakery name. There are other alternatives you can use to come up with unique bakery names.
I know a few bakers who’ve misspelled words, like adding extra O’s or doing something a little different with the lettering, and who are still doing fine, but I can tell you from from my own experience that people have trouble finding any store or shop, be it online or brick-and-mortar shops, when a business name is misspelled on purpose.
I had a baker client who previously had a Bakery name which was a play on words and was not spelled in the usual way. He engaged me to conduct a rebranding exercise. This bakery used to specialize in birthday cakes, which they delivered to venues and got paid through PayPal. He told me that one of the recurring problems he had because of the misspelled bakery name was that his clients sometimes sent PayPal payments to the wrong email address!
Make the Bakery Brand Name Visual
The next suggestion I can give you when deciding amongst bakery name ideas, is to make your name visual. What I mean by this, is to try and include a unique logo that is part of your Bakery Name.
Let’s say you named your business Bluebird bakery. You could have a bird in the logo. Your brand colors could be various shades of blue, you could display the bird flying, or perched etc. There’s all this visual information going to the client’s brain that makes it very memorable.
So try and consider names with which you can associate a visual element. A location, a thing, or maybe even a person (not yourself), but a character or a mascot. For example if you name your bakery ‘Paris Bake Shop’ and you’re going with a Paris theme, then you can have a logo with the Eiffel Tower included, or turn the Eiffel Tower into a Mascot character, and so on.
The visual aspect is really important so when you’re writing a list of potential bakery name ideas, and bakery business themes make sure you have a section that includes visual ideas.
Associate the Name with Emotions
Another tip when thinking of words to include in your bakery business name is to choose words that make people feel comfortable, make people feel excited about what you’re selling, make people feel that you’re professional and organized.
Use a Business Name Generator to tie Bakery Words into a Name
When trying to come up with a list of bakery name ideas for your bakery business a very useful tool is a business name generator. This can be found online and it’s completely free. There are various generators out there but my favorite one is Shopify’s Business Name Generator.
Go into the business name generator and type in words or phrases related to your bakery business. The tool will then generate a list of potential Bakery name ideas.
Get Feedback on the Name from Friends
Once you shortlist your top five to ten names, you can start getting feedback from family and friends. Ask people which are their favorite names from the list. See what people like, see what feedback they give you about the different bakery names on the list.
Use the different names in pretend conversations with your friends, like introducing your bakery by the new name. See how it flows on the tongue. See if it’s easy to remember and recall. See how it can be written in different styles.
Search the shortlisted Bakery Name Ideas Online
When you narrow the list down to the final three to five bakery names then you need to start searching online. Here you are checking for three things:
- First and foremost you want to make sure that no other bakery in your area of business already has that exact name or a very similar name.
- You want to make sure that the Bakery Name you choose is not protected by copyright registered by another business. You don’t want lawyers knocking on your door a few months after you started your business operations and after you spent good money printing the business name on various merchandise and packaging.
- You want to make sure that the website domains and social media handles for the names you choose are available.
Rest on it for a few Days before making the Final Choice
Once you find the perfect, unique bakery name that you will go for, set it aside for a few days so that your brains can have time to fully digest it.
You have been invested in this process for the last few days and your brain is overloaded with all the different bakery name ideas you came across and it’s tired and exhausted.
So I suggest you wait a few days and re-evaluate the name with a fresh mind and a fresh perspective before pulling the plug and registering the business name or buying the domain for your new Bakery.
Hopefully you have chosen the perfect bakery name that will stand the test of time, and if you feel this way when you revisit the name a few days later than you have eliminated any doubts.
I hope these tips help you come up with a name that ensures your bakery name lasts longer, as long as your business goes on. Let’s face it. The last thing you want to be doing is rebranding your bakery after a couple of years. It is a very expensive and time-consuming exercise.

The Name Should Give a Feeling of Home and Comfort
The world is changing. There were times when moms used to cook for their children and feed those homemade cakes and food. But today, we have got bakeries that sell everything you imagine cooking.
So, who would want to go through all that cooking process for a few cakes that they can buy with a few clicks on phone with the same money or even less than they would spend on cooking it?
But what if everybody wants to taste that same stuff once moms used to cook? Yes, bakeries exist that make homemade products that attract people toward them.
If you are one of them, baking homemade stuff, and giving people a feeling of home and comfort will help your business a lot. In fact, you can turn your business into a cash machine. Because the demand for home-made products is increasing day by day as people are getting busier and busier with each passing day.
